Pallas

Pallas

Friday night took me to The Moorings Bar for the first time in a while. I was there to grab some photos for a Pallas review.

Pallas have been around for a long time. From the progressive rock stable in the 80’s that included Marillion, they last year released a new album called Wearewhoweare. (more…)

Spear of Destiny

Spear of Destiny

A return to a band that was one of the first I photographed was next on my schedule. Back to The Moorings in fact, for Spear of Destiny. They seem to come back every year and pretty much always sell out the place.

So, the last couple of weeks of musings took you on a journey from the start – back in September 2013, of my picking up my camera and aiming it at people – to around spring this year; around 6-7 months. The plan now, for the next couple of  weeks is to go through some of the stuff I’ve done since then. Come the new year, I should have caught up with myself and can start 2015 in the present. This period of time has me becoming more involved with Flares n Seagulls.

The Manic Shine

The Manic Shine

One of my current favourite bands paid a visit to Aberdeen during the summer. I first came across The Manic Shine at the Fat Hippy studios a few months back and a few days before the gig, we did an interview with them, which can be found here.

I also encountered The Sex Pistols Experience – which certainly was an experience – and we went down to Dundee to see Peace.

TV Smith

TV Smith

Back to The Moorings this time, for T.V. Smith (formerly of The Adverts). My friend S likes political protestey type songs so she wanted to review this gig. They’re not really my cup of tea, but I’m always looking for new people/bands to shoot so I went along to provide some pictures for her review.

The Bloody Marys

The Bloody Marys

Now we come to the time running up to Christmas. I’d tried to pick some suitably festive acts to see – so we have The Bloody Marys and later the same evening Darth Elvis and the Imperials – although in keeping with the season it was Darth Elvis Santa on stage.

Slade

Slade

Another biggish venue followed on from the last – The Music Hall – this time for a double show featuring Slade and Sweet, glam rockers from my youth.

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

I’ve been going with a B&W theme here but the next artist is such a colourful guy, I’m going to break that theme just for him. Two weeks on from the October 2013 Catfish gig in my last post, and after shooting a bunch of local bands, I found myself back in The Moorings for The Crazy World of Arthur Brown – he’s been going a long time now (he’s 72) and is still as mad as ever.

Something that needs getting used to when you decide to pick up a camera and shoot bands is that they are not usually sedate affairs.

You will get bumped, knocked and spilt on and basically you just have to get used to it. A photo pit helps with the physical contact but won’t stop a pint of fluid trickling down your back.
